SEAN ONG TRAN
Sean Ong Tran is a Vietnamese Asian American dance artist who discovered his love for movement at sixteen when he first stepped into the entertainment world at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. He found himself enthralled by how the human body can express, connect, and create stories through movement as a restorative practice to redefine life experiences. This deep appreciation continues to guide his journey as he explores the intersection of movement and communication in performance and choreography, which led him to graduate with two B.A. degrees in Dance and Deaf Studies/American Sign Language from California State University, Sacramento.
Over the years, Sean has performed in a wide range of works, including R.E.M., choreographed by Laja Field of LAJAMARTIN; Fragmented 2.4 by TwoPoint4 Dance Theatre; Cornucopia, choreographed by Raja Feather Kelly; and In the Heights, the iconic musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes, directed by Ed Brazo. His performance credits also include A Choreographic Offering by José Limón (restaged by Gary Masters), Walk in Footprints at the American Dance Festival (2016), Morning Psalm at the ACDA Gala Concert (2016), and Darkside, a theater production by Tom Stoppard, directed by Roberto D. Pomo and Lisa Ross.
In addition to performing, Sean crafted his artistry as a choreographer. His work, [ling-goh], earned him the sjDANCEco’s ChoreoProject 2017 Fall Edition Adjudication Award in San Jose. He is forever grateful for the abundance of guidance he’s received along the way, learning from incredible mentors like Tony Nguyen, Philip Flickinger, Lorelei Bayne, Linda Bair, James Gregg, Sebastian Grubb, Bernard Brown, Dr. Linda Goodrich, Nolan T’sani, Nhan Ho, James Wheatley, Aubri Siebert, Megan Brunsvold Mercedes, Pepper Von, Ed Brazo, Kimberly B. Valmore, and Esther Pryor, and many others who have shaped his artistic perspective.
Currently in his sixth season with TwoPoint4 Dance Theatre, Sean continues to grow and evolve as both an artist and collaborator. With this enduring passion, he is driven to connect with others through dance and to share this transformative experience with the world.
